Last morning in Šibenik, Croatia. We hiked up to St. Michael’s fortress and paid to get in. This is one of the highest points in the city and has a great view.
Destination Zagreb
We checked out of our hotel and packed up all of our things into our car and head back to Zagreb. We stop at a couple of gas stations looking for breakfast style foods. The first one doesn’t have much but we pick up some chocolate filled croissants and something that resembles fig newtons. Both were horrible so we continue down the road stopping at three more gas stations without any luck.
One of the stops was up in the mountains. We really just stopped here to take a look.
Who has the right away?
Getting close to Zagreb the traffic picked up and after getting off the interstate we arrived at a three lane roundabout. Previous to when we got our rental car Devin found a website where it said that in Croatia cars entering the roundabout have the right of way. This is false in any country!! Traffic in Zagreb is a little crazy. It is a Friday afternoon at 2 PM and it feels like everyone is on the road. Poor Devin is handling all this well but we are happy to drop off the car and jump in the cab. Our new driver makes driving in this madness look so simple and easy that it is a little frustrating watching him navigate these streets with ease.
We arrive at the Double Tree and check in where we previously stayed. A low key evening was just right.
The next day we ate breakfast in the hotel since Croatians are anti-breakfast and we know there won’t be any options outside the hotel. After breakfast we head back to the market to people watch and enjoy our last couple of hours on vacation.
After making our way back to the hotel we catch a cab to the airport driver. This cabbie wasn’t as cool as the previous one and all of the warning lights are lit in his Prius. Warning lights be damned as he gets us to the Zagreb Airport without issue.
The airport is quite smaller than Nashville and only has two agents checking passengers in. After getting through security and customs we are free to navigate through the duty free section. The terminal isn’t much more than a 6 gates that aren’t gates at all. They are doors where buses pick you up and take you to the plane.
Back in Germany
Landing in Frankfurt we are greeted by another bus ride to the terminal. After a 20 minute long tour of Frankfurt airport we make it to the terminal and go through another security checkpoint. Yay! We eventually make it to our gate and board after promising some airport lady that our carry-ons don’t contain pocket knives and our checked luggage doesn’t have guns or ammunition.
Landed in DC a little later than expected because of stormy weather. Our flight to Nashville was canceled so we got it re-booked for the next day. We’ll get home eventually.
