Lake Bound

The rest of Day 1 was pretty uneventful. We picked up a rental car and made our way to Bad Wiessee. It’s a small town located along Lake Tegernesee about an hour South of Munich. There were cows on my side! Chris’ side too. I can’t remember how many points I got, but I absolutely won because Chris refused to play.

My original plan was to pick up groceries along the way but I neglected to confirm their opening hours. I knew that there wasn’t much open on Sundays in Germany but for some reason, I assumed that grocery stores would be the exception. They are not.

We checked into our home for the next 3 nights. It has a 100% wrap-around balcony and lovely lake views.

At least while you’re standing. If you sit in one of the comfy lounge chairs, the view gets a bit sketch.

Chris was fighting sleep and caffeine deprivation so much his eye was literally twitching so I bravely ventured out into the world to fetch us food. I’d identified a tiny grocerish store that had takeaway food and coffee. It also had a parking lot right next door. Key when navigating unknown areas.

I enjoyed a lovely drive around the lake and got to the parking lot. It was a paid lot but the instructions only came in German. My dear reader, I have thus far neglected to download Google Translate. Another fail on this trip. What can I say, I’m out of practice traveling! Anyway. It seemed that it was going to cost a single Euro for an hour which is a steal in my opinion but it wouldn’t take my money. I ended up walking away and taking the gamble of getting a ticket. Spoilers: I won!

I fought my way into the shop. Fun fact: all the doors today push instead of pull. I kept forgetting and kept trying to pull them open. I can’t imagine what happens when there’s a loud crowd of people and everyone needs to leave in a rush due to a fire or something. Nothing good I’m sure.

Anyway. The owner of the shop only speaks Italian. There was no coffee but he had takeaway pizza. I picked up 2 and Chris bravely navigated the oven operation (I’ve never seen knobs that pop in and out before!) and we dined while watching Tom & Jerry with German voiceovers.
