Returning to my Happy Place

I’ve not been sleeping well and the weather in Bad Wiessee is gray with a side of gloom. Needless to say, I wasn’t overly excited about the nearby hike I’d picked out. Never mind that it had a fancy restaurant hut with great lake views. It was gloomy and so was my mood.

Chris is amazing and found out that it was sunny in Mittenwald. He mapped out the route, found parking, identified a hike, and off we went! The scenery along the drive reminded me of Wisconsin. Several dairy farms. Lots of cornfields.

Cows on my side!

Mittenwald was the third place we visited the first time we came to Germany. It was one of the reasons I wanted to move here in retirement. There are so many trails and they’re all well marked.

We ended up retracing our steps from 9 years ago. We walked up the same path, saw the same waterfalls, and visited the same 2 lakes. This time we were smart and headed back to the car (it helped that we had a 3 hour limit) instead of getting lost in the mountains.

We took a new to us trail back that reminded me of the PNW – all sorts of trees and moss. We even saw nursing trees! No giant ferns but this was made up for by being surrounded by tall, tall peaks.
