We landed in Munich at 9:30 AM local time and got through customs with no problems. Previously we had issues with Canadian customs officials so we were worried we might have the same. One question asked, “Where are you going?” Devin responded with country names only “Germany and Croatia” I loved the brevity of the conversation. It was good enough for him and he let us pass.
S1
We took the S1 train from the airport to the city center where our hotel was.

Visa is not everywhere
A half mile walk later and we were at our hotel. Luckily our room was ready. After a quick shower we decided to go to the Deutsches Museum. Since we hadn’t pulled out Euros from an ATM Devin asked the info desk if they would take a Visa card. Devin got a “yes they would” response and we got in line to buy the 11€ ticket. After a 10 minute wait we got to the counter where we were informed that Visa was not everywhere we wanted to be.
We tried to go hunt down an ATM but that proved to be a little difficult so we decided to venture to the amazing park that Munich has. Still no Euros to our name but I felt we could pan-handle if need be.

There is a river that runs through this park that allows surfers to practice. Devin really got a kick out of watching them do their tricks and wiping out.

There is food but I have no money
Then we got lost in the park. We found a beer garden but no money to pay so we went hungry. Hungry, tired, and dehydrated we attempted to find our way out of the park. We got out of the park but not the same location we entered but after a little back tracking we got our bearings.
Finding this door changed our entire day.

ATM Magic
Behind this door were three ATMs. I wanted to use all of them in an effort to thank the bank deities but Devin convinced me that one would suffice. Now we were dangerous. Americans with a fistful of Euros with thirst and hunger.
We kept on walking toward the city square because Devin had a restaurant she wanted to try out. On the way we discovered this odd Michael Jackson shrine.

I did a little moonwalk out of respected and trudged on.
We got to the restaurant which is in the courtyard of a medieval building that is home to the glockenspiel (worst attraction in Munich – think giant coo coo clock.) I got a beer and all the issues we’d had today seemed not to matter. Beer will make everything better. That and a fat stack of funny colored / shaped bills to pay for said beer. Headed back to the hotel and took another shower. Time for bed.
