Glaciers in the sky

We woke up early to take a train to Engelberg. Engelberg is at the base of Mount Titlis. This would be our highest point on this trip surpassing 10,000 feet.

Somehow we got in the Globi train car. Globi is a Swiss cartoon character. The car had Globi books for parents to read to their children. There were no kids other than us on the train.

No matter how much I pleaded, none of the older Swiss passengers would read me my favorite Globi book.

Mount Titlis

We reached our destination in 45 minutes and headed for the gondolas that would take us up the mountain. In the walk to the gondola station Devin found her kitty fix. More accurately this cat found it’s human fix. It was too ready to be showered with attention by the persons headed to the mountain.

The first Gondola ride got us up to Stand.  The last gondola ride up was a special one. These guys have built a gondola that is a circle and rotates as it takes you up.

Once at the top we were reminded of how thin the air is up here. Actually it was just me. Devin says she always feels lightheaded and couldn’t tell the difference.

The complex they’ve built on this high place has a couple of restaurants, bathrooms, watch store, and a chocolate store. Skip all of them. The views are amazing and there is a scary bridge and a ice tunnel under the glacier.

The ice tunnel was really cool. They installed misters to spray water in intervals so that it refreezes and keeps the tunnel in tact.  It’s not everyday your 10,000 feet in the air.

Trübsee

We headed back down to Trübsee to do some hiking. There was a great lake with hammocks, row boats, and grills for the public to use.

We did some hiking to another lake with the help of some chair lifts. I was a bit tired of being in the sun for a second day so I headed back to Lucerne.

Devin continued on with her own adventure…
