TikTok Made Me Do It

Like most Americans our age or just most people, period, Chris and I have a social media addiction. Neither of us is currently seeking help.

Over the tail end of last year, TikTok bombarded Chris with all of the fun things to do in Poulsbo over the winter holidays. Our schedule wouldn’t permit us to make it out there until recently but we finally made it! I’ve also already blocked the calendar to go back and visit over the holidaze later in the year because it’s a pretty cool place to visit and it’s super close.

We spotted the Buc-ee Beaver at the port. He’s such a long way from home! One day, we’re going to visit his home and see the wall of jerky but not today.

Today we’re visiting Poulsbo, the Washington home of many Scandanavians. They’ve leaned into this culture in a big way and its now a tourist destination similar to how Leaventworth leaned into the Bavarian theme. The key difference is one was an intentional gimic (Leavenworth) while the other evolved naturally.

It was a very interesting day weather-wise. From our condo, the tops of the buildings were shrowded in fog. Once we got on the ferry, the fog seemed lower and it kept us company until we made it to Bainbridge.

But first, a troll. Her name is Pia.

You may or may not be aware of this super secret fact but I am addicted to carbs of nearly every variety, especially the sweet ones. Therefore, our very first stop was to the super famous Sluys’ Bakery. We timed it perfectly as the line wasn’t out the door but even for those folks standing in line a few buildings down, it’s worth it.

Atlas Obscura clued me in that the town had a licorice shrine in a local market. We headed there next to get some water and some licorice.

Next up was wandering all the adorable shops downtown before getting coffee at a waterfront shop. There’s an antique store called the Cat’s Meow and holy cow did they have cat-themed items!

We wrapped up our day trip with another Salvadorian restaurant. The pupusas weren’t as good as the last place but holy cow their taquitos were sublime! 10 out of 10.

See you again in December Polusbo!
